Swedish Industrial Output Declines Despite Surge in June Orders

    August 11, 2026

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN / RankWire.AI / – Official data revealed that Sweden’s industrial production contracted by 1.5% in June compared to the previous year. Additionally, output experienced a seasonal-adjusted decrease of 0.4% from May, indicating a less vigorous month for the nation’s manufacturing sector. Statistics Sweden provided these figures in its June Production Value Index report. The industrial index reached 112.4, down from 112.9 in May, with 2021 serving as the reference baseline of 100.

Sweden industrial output falls as June orders surge
Sweden’s industrial output fell in June while industrial orders recorded strong gains.

This yearly decline followed a revised 7.6% growth in May. Manufacturing output fell by 1.0% from June 2025, while mining and quarrying declined sharply by 13.8%. On a month-to-month basis, manufacturing decreased by 0.4%, and mining and quarrying dropped by 3.3%. Industry represented a 20.2% share of the broader private-sector measure for 2025. Manufacturing made up 19.4 percentage points of that share, making it the leading component within the industrial sector.

Despite the decline in June, gains recorded in the second quarter remained intact. The average industrial output from April through June was 4.0% higher than the same period in 2025. Seasonally adjusted figures also showed a 4.8% increase from the previous three months. Sweden’s wider private-sector output increased by 0.4% from May and by 1.8% compared to the previous year. This broader measure encompasses industry, services, construction, and selected utility activities.

Industrial sluggishness contrasts with overall economic growth

While industrial activity waned, service sector output decreased by 0.2% from May but rose 3.0% from June 2025. Construction output grew by 2.0% month-on-month and 7.6% annually. The services index stood at 111.9 in June, compared to 112.1 in May, while construction increased to 94.9 from 93.0. Services held a 67.2% share in the broader measure, with construction accounting for 8.4%.

Latest June data from Statistics Sweden indicated a significant jump in total industrial orders, which increased 32.3% from May after seasonal adjustment. On a calendar-adjusted basis, orders grew 29.9% from June 2025. Export orders experienced a 56.5% rise from May and a 57.6% increase from a year earlier. Domestic orders, however, only edged up by 0.1% from May but declined by 7.4% annually. From January through June, total orders were 4.0% above the same period in 2025, with export orders up by 6.6%.

Export orders surge while domestic orders decline annually

Transport equipment saw the largest expansion among key order categories in June, climbing 101.0% from May and 118.2% from the same month last year. Manufacturing orders increased by 33.2% month-over-month and by 31.2% annually. Orders for capital goods rose 45.5% from May and 50.7% from June 2025. Conversely, mining and quarrying orders declined by 1.8% monthly and by 19.0% from the previous year.

The release of production and order figures measures different facets of industrial activity. The Production Value Index gauges monthly variations in private-sector goods and services production in constant-price terms. Meanwhile, the orders series tracks short-term changes in new industrial orders from both domestic and export markets. Since new data might lead to revisions, the preliminary June figures are subject to updates. The next reports are scheduled for September 10 and will cover July 2026.
