    Eurozone Industrial Output Stagnates as EU Production Slightly Rises by 0.2%

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – In June 2026, industrial activity within the euro area remained flat compared to May, while the European Union experienced a modest growth of 0.2%, according to Eurostat. These figures, seasonally adjusted, followed a 0.3% monthly increase in both regions during May. Year-over-year, production was up by 0.1% in the euro zone and 0.6% across the EU. The latest data revealed varied performances among key industrial sectors and member states. This release focuses on industry excluding construction and uses adjusted data for monthly comparisons.

    Within the euro area, non-durable consumer goods drove the monthly growth with an increase of 3.0%. Energy output climbed 1.5%, while durable consumer goods saw a slight rise of 0.3%. Conversely, capital goods production declined by 1.4%, and intermediate goods output decreased by 0.8%. These changes resulted in an overall industrial production index of 98.7, unchanged from May on the 2021 base of 100. In May, non-durable consumer goods had increased by 3.3%, energy by 2.6%, and capital goods by 0.5%.

    Across the EU, non-durable consumer goods output increased by 2.5% in June, with energy rising 1.0%. Durable consumer goods grew by 0.9%, whereas capital goods production fell by 0.9%. Intermediate goods saw a decrease of 0.7% compared to May. The EU’s industrial production index reached 101.0 in June, up from 100.8 in May. Starting at 99.2 in January, the index experienced five consecutive monthly increases through June.

    Member states display significant monthly differences

    Denmark saw the highest monthly increase among EU countries with available data, rising 5.4% in June. Croatia followed with a 5.2% gain, while Lithuania and Finland each experienced a 2.1% rise. Luxembourg faced the sharpest decline at 10.7%, with Portugal dropping 3.9% and Estonia decreasing 2.2%. Germany’s industrial output grew by 0.2%, France remained unchanged, Italy’s production fell by 1.0%, and Spain’s declined 0.7%. Ireland increased by 2.0%, whereas the Netherlands saw a 1.7% decrease and Slovenia dropped 2.0%.

    On an annual basis, the euro area’s industrial output grew by 0.1% in June. Intermediate goods increased 0.4%, energy by 0.9%, and capital goods by 0.1%. In contrast, durable consumer goods fell by 2.5%, and non-durable consumer goods declined by 0.5%. Across the EU, total production rose 0.6% compared to June 2025, with intermediate goods up 1.0%, energy up 0.3%, and capital goods increasing 0.9%. Meanwhile, both consumer goods categories experienced declines.

    Lithuania Outpaces Other Member States in Yearly Industrial Growth

    Among member states with available data, Lithuania recorded the highest annual expansion at 7.7%. Denmark followed with a 6.1% increase, and Poland saw a 4.9% rise. Finland grew by 4.6%, Hungary by 4.1%, and Czechia by 4.0%. Luxembourg experienced the most significant decline on an annual basis at 7.9%, with Romania dropping 5.6% and Estonia decreasing 4.6%. Germany and France each saw a 0.5% decrease, Italy declined by 0.6%, while Spain recorded a 1.0% increase compared to June 2025.

    Eurostat also updated its initial May industrial production figures from the report issued on July 15. The monthly change for the euro area was revised from a 0.2% decline to a 0.3% increase. Similarly, the EU’s monthly figure shifted from a 0.1% decrease to a 0.3% gain. The annual output for May was also adjusted, showing a 0.1% decline for the euro zone and a 0.6% rise for the EU. Eurostat constructs these regional series based on seasonally adjusted national data, including estimations for recent missing observations when compiling the aggregate figures.
